Reutzel Rolls to Washington after Big Win for Bob Miller

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (June 25, 2015) – Some things you simply can’t script.

And even if you could, it would be difficult to top Aaron Reutzel’s emotional Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour triumph at Salina Speedway in Salina, KS, last Friday night.

The triumph marked Reutzel’s seventh overall win of the year and third in ASCS National Tour action aboard the Shark-powered BC Fundz/Basic One Services No. 87 Triple X Sprint Car.

But, more importantly, it came in his first start since paying final respects to long-time friend and sponsor Bob Miller just a few days earlier.

“It was cool to get it done that soon, to get that win for Bob,” Reutzel said afterward. “It was emotional, it was difficult to even get through the victory lane interview.”

Emotional indeed, as Reutzel pointed out that, “Words can’t describe this. I lost a lot more than a sponsor, I lost a best friend, a role model, a mentor. This is tough.”

Reutzel made it look easy on the track, racing forward from the seventh starting position in the Wren Motorsports/Momentum Racing Suspensions machine to ultimately take the lead on the 24th of 30 laps.

“We were definitely good, but it was pretty hard to pass,” Reutzel says. “Just about everyone I got was on restarts.”

Seth Bergman was Reutzel’s final victim with a big slide job in the Dissolvealloy Frac Ball Revolution entry to take command in the closing rounds.

“Being aggressive on the starts was what won the race for us,” Reutzel explains.

Back atop the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour point charts even after missing the Speedweek opener at Devil’s Bowl, Reutzel went on to Missouri’s Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday and once again gridded the feature field inside the fourth row aboard the Danny Sander Construction/ButlerBuilt machine.

“We started good, we were up to third pretty early,” Reutzel explains.

But after checking up to avoid another car, Reutzel lost a pair of positions that he couldn’t regain this time.

“We were probably good enough to run top two or three, but I lost my momentum going forward and just couldn’t turn it back around,” Reutzel said after finishing off Speedweek with a seventh-place finish.

With an emotional win for Bob Miller in the books and another top-ten finish to put the wraps on Speedweek, Reutzel and the Lone Star Hydro Maintenance/Wright Way Logistics crew take to Skagit Speedway in Alger, WA, for this weekend’s Dirt Cup with a 58-point lead in the $60,000 Lucas Oil ASCS National championship chase.

2015 Quick Stats: 31 races, 7 wins, 16 top-fives, 21 top-tens.
