Reutzel Sets Sights on More World of Outlaws Podiums

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (May 5, 2017) – Aaron Reutzel scored his first career podium finish with the World of Outlaws last Friday night at Indiana’s Plymouth Speedway, driving the Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/BC Fundz No. 87 Triple-X Sprint Car to a third-place finish.

He and the Wren Motorsports/Momentum Racing Suspensions team will be looking for more this weekend, competing with the World of Outlaws at Sedalia’s Missouri State Fairgrounds on Friday night and then Wichita’s 81 Speedway on Saturday night.

The Plymouth podium was the only action of last weekend with all other viable options falling victory to rain.

It also marked his second podium finish in as many weekends after racing to a third-place finish in the Knoxville Raceway opener the previous Saturday.

“We’ve had a couple of really good weekends,” Reutzel says. “Now we just need to get our ASCS program going.”

The WoO card at Plymouth started out on a strong note.

“We qualified good,” Reutzel said after timing in fourth-quickest. “That’s what you have to do with the World of Outlaws, it’s the hardest part of racing with them.”

Reutzel then won his heat race from the front row outside and finished third in the Dash to earn a second-row inside starting position.

“The first start we got right up to second and were right on (Jason) Sides for the lead,” Reutzel says of the early laps aboard the Nattress Construction/Wings Unlimited entry.

A caution didn’t help his chances of getting his first World of Outlaws win.

“The restart showed those guys where I had been running,” Reutzel explains.

The second restart worked to Reutzel’s advantage though, with him battling back around David Gravel and Donny Schatz to recapture second.

“We were really good on the short runs,” Reutzel relates. “But when we ran ten laps or so, my car got way too loose.”

Holding down second as the laps clicked off, one bobble opened the door for Gravel. “I hit the cushion and turned the nose toward the fence a little bit,” Reutzel explains.

Reutzel held down third the rest of the way to post his best WoO career finish after previous runs that resulted in finishes of fourth and fifth.

“All in all, to run third with those guys is pretty awesome,” Reutzel says.

Reutzel and the Wright Way Logistics/Walker Performance Filtration team will get back to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action next Thursday at Kansas City’s Lakeside Speedway.

But first, another pair of World of Outlaws events await this weekend at Sedalia and Wichita. Reutzel has enjoyed success at both venues, albeit in 360-ci competition.

During Reutzel’s 2015 Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour campaign, he rolled to a $13,000 “High Roller” victory at the Missouri State Fairgrounds. One year earlier in June of 2014, Reutzel was victorious in his only previous visit to Wichita’s 81 Speedway with an NCRA triumph.

He will try to translate those successes into this weekend’s WoO action.

2017 Quick Stats: 24 races, 3 top-fives, 7 top-tens.
