Reutzel Reels Off Another Win!

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (November 11, 2014) – Aaron Reutzel is finishing off the 2014 season in strong form aboard the BC Fundz/Wren Motorsports No. 87 Triple X Sprint Car.

This past weekend is a perfect case in point, as Reutzel added his eighth overall win of the year in Saturday night’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour stop at Southern New Mexico Speedway after posting a runner-up finish at El Paso Speedway Park the previous night.

“It was another good one,” Reutzel understated.

With this past weekend’s finishes of second and first, Reutzel has finished no lower than fourth in his most recent eight starts aboard the Momentum Racing Suspensions/Danny Sander Construction/ButlerBuilt entry with two wins, four runner-up finishes, a third and a fourth.

“Everything is staying together, no parts failures, it makes all the difference in the world,” Reutzel explains of the late-season surge.

Reutzel will try to carry that momentum into this weekend’s season-ending Lucas Oil ASCS event at Cocopah Speedway near Yuma, AZ, on Friday and Saturday.

Reutzel’s fourth ASCS National win of the year and eighth overall came on a heavy Southern New Mexico Speedway surface near Las Cruces on Saturday night.

“We were fortunate enough to draw good, the track got faster and faster all night,” Reutzel said.

Gridding the 30-lap feature inside the second row, Reutzel needed just seven laps to race into the lead for keeps aboard the Basic One Services/Lone Star Hydro Maintenance/Wright Way Logistics machine.

“I got ‘em in traffic, they got up in the fluff a little bit and opened the door,” Reutzel commented.

While Reutzel prevailed at Las Cruces, his eighth win of the year very nearly came 24 hours earlier at El Paso Speedway Park.

“We screwed up a little bit and that probably cost us the win,” Reutzel explains.

Opting for a lower gear in hopes to generate greater overall speed, a greasy track in hot laps and heat race made it difficult to gauge. And when the track locked down in fast fashion in the feature, Reutzel says, “We just didn’t have enough gear to get off the corner, it would just lug so bad.”

Trying to keep his momentum up, Reutzel was forced to work the top side. “I couldn’t run the line that I knew I needed to, I had to stay committed to the top and there really wasn’t a lot there, especially in one and two.”

Lapped traffic would have worked to Reutzel’s advantage, had they ever reached it. “Every time we got to traffic the caution would come out.”

Still, Reutzel earned a close second-place finish. “I felt like we kind of gave one away, but still it was a good finish and we got the win the next night so it’s all good.”

Reutzel and the No. 87 team will now try to finish off the Lucas Oil ASCS National campaign with another win or two near Yuma this weekend.

“I think we’ll be good there,” Reutzel says. “It’s a place that usually doesn’t hold a lot of moisture, it slicks off enough that it’s usually really racy, it’s a place I really enjoy going to.”

2014 Quick Stats: 60 races, 8 “A” Main wins, 30 top-fives, 40 top-tens.
