All Star Champ Reutzel Ready to Storm the Port after Trophy Cup Run Last Weekend

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (October 25, 2018) – Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team are set to be back in action this weekend with a pair of World of Outlaws events at Port Royal Speedway in central Pennsylvania.

The weekend is slated to begin with an $8,000-to-win tilt on Friday before culminating with Saturday night’s $51,000-to-win Tuscarora 50 atop the ½-mile clay oval.

Reutzel has found good speed aboard the BRM No. 87 Folkens Brothers Trucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X team each time out at Port Royal with a Labor Day weekend win among a pair of podium finishes.

Following this weekend’s Port Royal double, Reutzel and the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment team will finish off a successful first season as a new team with the World of Outlaws season-ending “World Finals” at The Dirt Track at Charlotte next weekend, November 1-3.

Reutzel and the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspensions recently put the finishing touches on the 2018 All Star Circuit of Champions title.

Reutzel returns to Posse territory this weekend after taking to the left coast last weekend for the 25th Annual Trophy Cup at Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway.

Taking the wheel of Willie Kahne’s No. 51 Sprint Car, the duo overcame early struggles to become among the fastest of the near 90-car field by the end of the weekend. A tangle in traffic denied a feature win in the Saturday night finale.

“We started off a little rough,” Reutzel said of the Thursday opener. “The car was different than what I’m used to, and I drive different than what Willie is used to. It took a little time to get used to each other.”

After missing the feature cut the first night, Willie Kahne went to work on the car.

“We just couldn’t get rolling the first night,” Reutzel recalls. “Willie is great at what he does, and the second night we were 90% better. Then it was me making mistakes on Friday night.”

The improvements were evident with a heat race win to secure a feature starting position before finishing out the night in 16th.

With more time to make adjustments, the duo of Reutzel and Kahne found the speed they were looking for on Saturday.

“We were bad fast on Saturday,” Reutzel says. “If we had unloaded on Thursday with what we had on Saturday, we probably would have been able to win it all. Willie changed everything under the sun over the weekend.”

Racing his way into the feature, Reutzel led the way from the pole position until a tangle with a lapped car brought his Trophy Cup to an end.

“I kept waiting for the leader to make a mistake, he finally did and then we had about four lapped cars between us,” Reutzel explains. “A car got out of shape in front of us, I lifted to miss him and the right front got into the wall and ended our night.”

With a typically adventurous Trophy Cup in the books, Reutzel and the BRM No. 87 team vie for Saturday’s $51,000 winner’s share at Port Royal Speedway.

2018 Quick Stats: 72 races, 11 wins, 27 top-fives, 39 top-tens.
